LLH has a new Creative Director and embarks on taking performances to its neighbouring doorsteps

Rebecca, who has moved from a 20-year career at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse as Creativity and Social Change Director is the new Creative Director and Chief Operating Officer in Liverpool Lighthouse.

She was recently made a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside. With her passion for the arts and social changes Rebecca has marked her entrance with a theatrical musical doorstep performance, ‘The Summer Folk’ that will tour neighbouring wards of Anfield, Everton and Kensington over the next two weeks (19 June – 3 July)

The impact of COVID in terms of isolation, loneliness and mental health along with increased poverty levels means there are significantly more people having a challenging time. As the lockdown restrictions are easing, the issues remain. Doorstep performances aim to provide a special experience for people in the local community to support their wellbeing.

The Trustees of Liverpool Lighthouse are pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Ross-Williams as their new Creative Director to lead the development of the organisation going forward.

Chair of the Board, Dr Tani Omideyi said:

“ We’re delighted to appoint Rebecca in this role as we embark on the next chapter of Liverpool Lighthouse’s journey as an arts and community venue with an unswerving commitment to working with our communities for transformational change and fulfilled lives. The doorstep performance project will hopefully bring much joy and hope to residents across our communities and the assurance that others are thinking of them.”

Rebecca stated that:

“It is an exciting time to be leading Liverpool Lighthouse with its award-winning community work and the opportunities for development and growth as an arts-led organisation. Through supporting the development of individual creativity, providing opportunities for the sharing of creative work in North Liverpool and providing a space for the work of underrepresented voices, Liverpool Lighthouse aims to be a creative sanctuary and to develop its work as the only Urban Gospel Music Centre in the UK. Summer Folk doorstep performances enables Liverpool Lighthouse to connect with our communities which is designed to uplift and inspire”

The Summer Folk are 3 colourful characters, who with harmonious acapella singing, magic tricks and an uplifting story, delight those who have faced challenges and need a treat.
