Liverpool Lighthouse first started training adults in 2000. We were the first organisation in Merseyside to be licensed by UfI to offer ELLIS (English for Speakers of Other Languages delivered through online learning) in our Learndirect Centre.

Over the last number of years, we have trained over 1000 adults, first through Learndirect, and later through our Integrate programmes, funded by NLDCF and ALS. These combine language and Basic Skills teaching with music and arts activities, trips, workshops and fun events to enhance learning.

Learners, who include Asylum Seekers and Refugees, economic migrants, low-skilled adults and lone parents, are given high levels of support to overcome barriers, not only  academic but also social and personal, such as homelessness, health, financial problems.

Our learners come from many different countries – each class may have 19 or 20 different nationalities represented. The informal activities promote integration not just within the class but also into the community. We do our best to make learners feel at home, and currently achieve satisfaction ratings of over 99%. Many have progressed onto further learning, employment or volunteering opportunities within
Liverpool Lighthouse and elsewhere.

Our courses are funding dependent; dates will be advertised as soon as funding is secured for our next round.
