Training & Employment

Liverpool has the highest percentage, among the core cities in England, of young people and adults aged 16 – 64 with no formal qualifications. This stands at 18%, compared with an average of 12% for the northwest, and 10.6% for the whole of Great Britain.

Liverpool Lighthouse has a proven track record in upskilling low-skilled adults and young people aged 16+ who are NEET, moving them into further education, training or employment. We move large numbers from volunteering into employment and provide advice and personal support to overcome barriers to learning. A strong health and wellbeing strand runs through all our services.

Our employability programmes have included:

  • Basic IT
  • Literacy & Numeracy
  • ESOL Integrate – learning English and experiencing integration
  • Job search, interview skills sessions
  • Work placements – can be arranged
  • Volunteering opportunities with Liverpool Lighthouse
  • Workplace preparation workshops – health & safety, equal opportunities, first aid

Liverpool Lighthouse is registered with OCR, NCFE, AQA, ESB and Trinity College London.

The ESOL course … really helped my confidence. It is good because it’s free but mainly because of the teachers; the staff are amazing and very helpful. They have helped me with several things; – Angela
I can’t thank the staff enough. I recommend all my friends to come here, the staff are great and the programme is so helpful; it has changed my life. – Eroka
