About Us

Liverpool Lighthouse, an urban arts centre dedicated to gospel arts, is situated in the heart of Anfield in the former Gaumont Palace Cinema; a large art deco building just 100 metres from the world famous Liverpool Football Club's ground. Liverpool Lighthouse is the first performance and arts venue in Europe to specialise in the heritage and on-going legacy of Gospel Music as an all-embracing art form. Liverpool Lighthouse's primary focus is the renewal of its home city of Liverpool from within the community using a sustainable social enterprise model. Liverpool Lighthouse is a diverse venue with many facilities and services on offer.

At its core is a belief in community inclusion and development and Liverpool Lighthouse have been committed to running inclusion and educational programmes that use arts and music, especially urban gospel arts, to engage participants and to help their self development and community awareness. Among others, Liverpool Lighthouse runs ESOL courses teaching English and ‘Harmonize', the alternative education programme for 14-19 year olds. Liverpool Lighthouse also maintains a busy programme of diversionary social activities for the community.

Liverpool Lighthouse fundamentally believes in people and their ability to learn and develop no matter their age, ability or background. Liverpool Lighthouse encourages volunteering, partnership and creative expression in its goal for city and community regeneration.

As an Urban Gospel Arts Centre, Liverpool Lighthouse is fast becoming a focal point as an entertainment venue in North Liverpool attracting performers and acts to King's hall, a state of the art performance auditorium. The home of the Love and Joy Gospel Choir, Liverpool Lighthouse welcomes groups of any genre to perform and rehearse at our facilities. Since its inception Liverpool Lighthouse has promoted Urban Gospel Arts and music in the city. It has established the City Sings Gospel project which aims to provide people with the opportunity to participate in choral singing for the first time. The City Sings Gospel has gained momentum becoming an International Gospel Music Festival that celebrates the local, the national and the international gospel music and arts scenes.

Liverpool Lighthouse values the importance of business in the community as a tool for regeneration and has established a business unit called LABS. Initially, LABS (Lighthouse Arts Business Support) was primarily focused in supporting and developing small arts based businesses by providing office space and training. These fledgling arts businesses have now become established tenants at Liverpool Lighthouse making LABS a business hub. Liverpool Lighthouse continues to offer commercial space to initiatives, community groups and businesses for hire on a short term basis or long term basis. Liverpool Lighthouse offers fantastic facilities for hire, such as the auditorium, meeting rooms, IT suite and our dance studio.

Our restaurant, Bliss, is also building on the idea of community regeneration through business and skill building. Bliss offers a range of healthy and delicious foods and a selection of non-alcoholic wines and beverages. Volunteers from the community that wish to re-enter the work force help us to run this pleasant bistro.
