Working Together to Transform Communities

Liverpool Lighthouse is a community based training and activity centre in North Liverpool. Working in partnership, we run a number of activities and classes using arts and education to engage the community- both young and old alike. Within the Anfield and Breckfield area people face a series of serious social and economic challenges on a daily basis, therefore are in most need of facilities and activities that serve their needs. Target groups include youth, people with learning difficulties and the elderly.
Liverpool Lighthouse also serves the larger Merseyside community through its urban gospel arts activities and with its partnerships with other organisations.

Liverpool Lighthouse's events and educational programmes strongly promote our ethos of ‘working together to transform communities' and would not be possible without the continued support of our partners. Liverpool Lighthouse regularly seeks funding for our diversionary activities and classes. If your organisation is interested in working with us please contact Sheila on 0151 476 2342.

In order to secure work, employers require candidates to have minimum qualifications. Our Basic Skills courses in Literacy and Numeracy (Level 1, Level 2) give students a chance to get OCR qualifications which are nationally recognised as the equivalent to GCSE. Employability Skills are incorporated into our Literacy courses, or can be taken separately. We also do Basic IT and the CLAIT qualification.

Our Arts and Heritage programme for the over 50s is well established. It is run partly on site at Liverpool lighthouse and partly on an outreach basis, reaching into 18 sheltered accommodation units in North Liverpool. Come and join in our lively activities, meet other people and have fun! You can do craft and card making, music and dance or join Kaleidoscope Singers. This North Liverpool community choir grew out of the 2005 Kaleidoscope History and Heritage Programme for the over 50s at Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield. Kaleidoscope Community Singers meet weekly and have performed at high profile events in Liverpool. They serenaded thousands at the launch of Liverpool's 800th birthday celebrations in 2007 and at the Festival of Hope on Hope Street in 2008. Kaleidoscope members in conjunction with Liverpool Lighthouse facilitators do outreach to vulnerable members of the community teaching them how to sing. Kaleidoscope is run in partnership with New Beginnings.

Since January 2008, Liverpool Lighthouse has employed a Youth Connect Worker to work with the young people of Anfield and Everton to encourage them to move from the streets into positive organised activities, as a first step to re-engaging them with education and training. The activities range from dance competitions and other diversionary activities taking place at Liverpool Lighthouse to activities that the youth themselves are organising. As part of this our Youth Connect Worker and the youth are decorating and refurbishing a section of the building opposite Liverpool Lighthouse with the aim of making it a venue and space for young people to use.

The Youth Connect programme will include visits, music and dance activities and workshops, including free running and street dance. “High NRG” is an exciting dance and music project aiming to inspire young people to get off the streets and to get into positive, healthy activities. High NRG events are held regularly at Liverpool Lighthouse.

The Furniture Outlet is an environmental project and a resource for the community. It collects high quality donated furniture and goods such as beds, wardrobes, three piece suites, tables, chairs, kitchen ware, clothing, books and much more. These are sold on at affordable prices to the public. We collect unwanted goods and deliver purchases direct to your door. All profits help people in the developing world as part of the LJM International. Open Monday to Friday at Liverpool Lighthouse from 9am to 5pm.
