Harmonize Education

Alternative Education Programme & Youth Activities

Harmonize Project is an alternative education programme that offers a number of vocational courses for young people aged 12-16. The three courses, Harmonize, Harmonize IFP and Harmonize Plus engage and motivate young people using contemporary urban arts. Urban arts cover many street based art forms that appeal to young people, such as dance, drama, rap, dj-ing, singing and graffiti art. Harmonize combines these arts with IT, literacy and numeracy skills whilst addressing personal development to really engage in education.

The courses offer youth excluded from school, on the verge of exclusion or those wishing to pursue careers in performing arts a chance to gain recognised qualifications such as the OCR in literacy and numeracy and NCFE L2 qualification in Performance Skills and Music Technology. Learners could achieve 4 equivalent qualifications over a year. To see the promotional video click the link below. The video will open in a new window:

Harmonize is an inclusion education programme running at Liverpool Lighthouse from Monday to Friday. The programme targets disaffected 12– 16 year olds, who are at risk of exclusion, with no or poor school attendance. Harmonize also targets students who have low self-esteem or who have been victims of bullying.

Harmonize uses performing arts to attract, engage and up-skill them. They opt for between two to four days of classes in urban arts (performing and visual), personal development, IT, literacy and maths. They work towards recognised qualifications and engaging with education and the work force. Harmonize is committed to promoting positive behaviour and motivating youth excluded from school. Harmonize incorporates a personal development programme which offers workshops in anger management, drug and alcohol awareness, PSHE (Being healthy, staying safe and making a positive contribution), careers education and relationship education. We also have limited work placement opportunities in construction, hospitality and catering, administration and venue departments to give young people work experience in these fields.

Harmonize IFP is an ‘Increased Flexibility Programme’ running at Liverpool Lighthouse on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students aged between 12 and 16 in full time education can opt to take one day a week over two years or two days a week over one year out of their school timetable to do Harmonize IFP. Students can pursue their vocation in classes in the urban arts such as Drama, Dance, Singing, DJ-ing and Rapping. They work towards nationally recognised qualifications equivalent to GCSEs in Performance Skills and Music Technology and work together on a showcase performance at the end of every term at Liverpool Lighthouse. Harmonize IFP harnesses and develops raw talent. Graduates of Harmonize IFP have gone on to pursue vocations and further education in the arts sector.

Harmonize Plus is an extension of the Harmonize programme. It is an inclusion education programme running at Liverpool Lighthouse for young people who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) that have left school and are aged between 16 and 19. Students opt for classes in personal development, IT, literacy and maths and can do work placements in construction, hospitality, catering, administration and venue departments. They work towards recognised qualifications and pursuing a vocation career in their chosen field. Harmonize Plus is committed to promoting positive behaviour and motivating youth aged between 16 and 19 to engage back into education, employment or training.
