Nicola’s Story

Nicola has been attending Harmonize since March 2010, she is eager to learn and respectful at all times. Despite some hard times throughout her education, Nicola has a goal in mind and would love to become a successful actress.

Before coming to Harmonize, Nicola was expelled from school and then deliberately got herself kicked out of an education unit. At the time, Nicola had anger issues and this made it hard for her to communicate with others. Nicola attended other education units but they were temporary placements and that lead to her being out of education for two weeks. Out of education, Nicola was approached by the authorities and told about the Harmonize project.

Nicola says:

“Harmonize is better for me, it’s what I like doing – you can do rapping, singing, dance, drama, maths, English, DJing – you get to have dinner as well, and you can do acting – that’s what I want to do when I’m older – be an actress.

I enjoy it here because I feel like I am liked, I like the teachers and I like the people on the course – I am getting to make new friends. I also like it because it’s going to give me a good education and build up my confidence for acting when I get older.

If I wasn’t at Harmonize I would probably be in the house looking for somewhere to take me in. I am happy now, but I realise that I should never have got kicked out of school. Harmonize has helped me to calm down, the staff here are good, they teach you loads”.

Nicola now mentors new students who join Harmonize, she is positive, mature and a good influence on those she helps. She is set to achieve all her qualifications with Harmonize, and hopefully with the performance skills she has gained here – will achieve her dream of becoming an actress.
