Furniture Bank
Lighthouse Furniture Bank was the first community project set up in an old cinema building that LJM bought in 1998 and set about refurbishing. The initial vision was to convert unwanted household goods to cash towards the refurbishment costs of the centre. It soon became clear that this would do more than that – it became and has remained a major point of contact with the local community.
What do we do?
- We collect quality donated furniture and other household goods from households, businesses across Merseyside, we then sell them at very low prices, so that those on low income can afford to buy the furniture.
- We give opportunities for work experience through work placements, volunteering, and job opportunities.
- We educate the community on environmental matters by running various workshops, we give free advice on recycling and saving energy through our information hub funded by MWDA.
- Funds raised now help widows, orphan and those in need worldwide
- A significant bulk of the furniture is donated to the poor to help them resettle into new accommodation.
“My house was broken into three times, they took everything, LFB helped me make it a home again by giving me furniture and support– thank you.” – A customer
People and businesses from all over Merseyside and beyond donate and purchase from the Furniture Bank. We have our own pick up and delivery service.
